On the afternoon of April 2, 2025, the event Taste of Spring: DIY Three-Colored Qingtuan was successfully held in the culinary experience zone on the second floor of the North District Canteen. Nearly 20 international students from countries such as France, the United States, South Korea, Switzerland, Brazil, Vietnam, Hungary, Japan, and the Philippines experienced and learned how to make qingtuan—a traditional food for the Qingming Festival.
The Qingming Festival is a traditional Chinese occasion for honoring ancestors and expressing grief. On this day, people visit graves to sweep tombs and pay respects to their forebears. Eating qingtuan during Qingming Festival is a way to show reverence for ancestors. The green color of qingtuan symbolizes spring and the revival of all things, while its glutinous rice component represents family reunion. Through hands-on preparation and tasting, international students from around the world savored the taste of spring and deepened their understanding of traditional Chinese culture.
